Update on St. Sava Monastery Former Camp Building Renovation and Proposed Rendering

We are pleased to share an update on the renovation of the former camp building at St. Sava Monastery in Libertyville. This initiative, led by K2 Architects, is part of our broader efforts to revitalize and repurpose existing facilities to better serve the needs of our community, pilgrims, and monastery guests.

Renovation Progress

The former camp building, which has long been a part of the monastery grounds, is undergoing extensive renovations to transform it into a more functional and welcoming space. Recent and ongoing improvements include:

  • Structural Repairs & Reinforcements – Addressing foundational and framework issues to ensure stability and longevity.
  • Roof Replacement – Upgrading the roof to protect the building from the elements and improve insulation.
  • Interior Modernization – Installing new flooring, upgraded lighting, and refreshed walls to create a more comfortable environment.
  • Plumbing & Electrical System Upgrades – Bringing utilities up to modern standards for efficiency and reliability.

New Proposed Rendering

A new architectural rendering has been developed to reimagine the former camp building’s purpose and layout. The proposed design reflects both aesthetic and functional enhancements while preserving the spiritual character of the monastery grounds. Key features include:

  • Guest Accommodations & Pilgrimage Lodging – Transforming part of the building into comfortable guest rooms for visiting clergy, monastics, and pilgrims.
  • Educational & Retreat Spaces – Creating areas for spiritual retreats, youth programs, and Orthodox educational workshops.
  • Community Gathering Hall – A multipurpose space for fellowship, meetings, and monastery events.
  • Summer Camp Facilities – Enhancing the space to support youth summer camps, providing a nurturing environment for faith-based activities and outdoor learning.
  • Outdoor Enhancements – Landscaping improvements and an inviting entrance to seamlessly integrate the building with the monastery’s serene environment.

Next Steps & Community Support

We are currently awaiting permit prints from K2 Architects, which are expected any day now. Once received, we will submit them to the county for permit approval. If all goes as planned, this will bring us to the exciting next phase—beginning construction work in May.

We invite our faithful community to support this important endeavor through donations, volunteer efforts, and prayers. Your support will ensure that this historic building is revitalized into a meaningful space that will serve generations to come. Stay tuned for further updates and the official unveiling of the proposed renderings!
